Large breed dogs require large amounts of money for vet checks, vaccines, food, chipping, training, etc. And in the State of Ohio...to own an ';American Bulldog'; requires keeping an insurance policy specifically for the dog.
Is your g/f capable of handling these things and being mature enough to ensure the well-being of the dog? If she (or you) are just going to tie it to a tree in the back or drop a 25lb. choke chain around it's neck then do everyone a favor.....BUY HER A CANDLE AND SOME BATH OILS!!.

I would buy her a nice bit of gold/silver for now, if you cant afford to buy the dog how will you afford the upkeep of a dog??

Buy the dog together when you can afford it and both choose the breed together, also imagine all the time a puppy will take up, do you really want your nose pushed out, they are just like babies, and will be around for a few years
